Campaigns and Programs

The UC San Diego-Network for a Healthy California operates a variety of social marketing campaigns and programs designed to increase fruit and vegetable consumption and physical activity levels among low-income families. The campaigns and programs include the Children's Power Play! Campaign, Latino Campaign, African American Campaign, Retail Program, Physical Activity Integration, Worksite Program and San Diego Nutrition Network Collaborative.

  • Worksite Wellness Program

    The key objective of the Network for a Healthy California-- Worksite Program is a public health initiative led by the California Department of Health Services and administered by the Public Health Institute.

    Its purpose is to empower low-income workers to consume the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables and enjoy physical activity every day.

    The fruit and vegetable and physical activity objectives are designed to reduce the risks of chronic diseases, especially cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.

     

  • Physical Activity Integration

    The Physical Activity Integration Program emphasizes the key role of active living to developing health lifestyle habits and combating chronic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, heart diseases, cancer, and arthritis across all ages and communities.

    The key objective of the Physical Activity Integration Program is to work with community partners, the media, and policymakers to promote physical activity and healthy eating among low-income adults and children across San Diego and Imperial Region.

     



  • The Children’s Power Play

    The Network for a Healthy California — Children's Power Play! Campaign is a public health initiative led by the California Department of Public Health and administered by the Public Health Institute. Its purpose is to motivate and empower California’s 9- to 11-year-old children to eat 3 to 5 cups of fruits and vegetables and get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

    These objectives are designed to improve children’s short-term health and reduce their long-term risk of chronic diseases, especially cancer, heart disease, and obesity.

    Children's Power Play! is currently funded by the USDA Food Stamp Program to target children from food stamp eligible families.

  • Latino Campaign

    The Network for a Healthy California – Latino Campaign is a public health initiative led by the California Department of Public Health and administered by the Public Health Institute.

    Its purpose is to empower low-income Latino adults and their families to consume the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables and enjoy physical activity every day.

    The Latino Campaign also works with communities throughout California to create environments where these behaviors are socially supported and accessible.

    The fruit, vegetable and physical activity objectives are designed to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, especially cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.

  • Retail

    The Network for a Healthy California - Retail Program facilitates partnerships between neighborhood stores and community health agencies to help increase the consumption and purchase of fruits and vegetables among food stamp eligible Californians.

     

     

  • African American Campaign

    Network for a Healthy California — African American Campaign, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Stamp Program is designed to improve the health of the low-income African American community by providing education, advocacy, and policy development about healthy eating and physical activity.
